Pulling inspiration from The Ten Largest series painted by Hilma Af Klint in 1907, this piece entitled "Childhood" explores the human life cycle and represents key memories, crossed paths, and the moments in childhood that leave impressions on us as we get older. Often in my pieces, the center band illustrates the “self” and the number of shapes give meaning to specific people or themes. In this case, I’ve included four larger bands to reference De Fem (Hilma af Klint and four other women who formed the group The Five) as well as six additional bands for the women represented beside me in this show.
